Cowboy Christmas Guardian (Gold Country Cowboys #1) by Dana Mentink (review by Cathy)

Cowboy Christmas Guardian

About the book:

Someone is dead set on stopping Shelby Arroyo from doing her job: assessing mineral rights in a mine in gold country. But after rancher Barrett Thorn rescues her from an attack, the handsome widowed cowboy seems to feel responsible for her.
That is, until he discovers she’s from the family that he’ll never forgive for his wife’s death. As the threats against Shelby escalate, cowboy honor and an unexpected attraction keep Barrett by her side, even at his own risk.
And since Shelby won’t back down, Barrett must protect the brave, loyal woman he has no business falling for…a woman someone wants to kill by Christmas

My review (5-stars)

Saddle up and get ready for a wild ride in the first book in the Gold Country Cowboys series by Dana Mentink!

This is an action packed, tense, heart racing and fantastic story.  It’s also a story of love, strong family ties and a touch of sadness as Barrett grieves the loss of his wife.  I felt as though the Thorn family is real and could imagine them working  on their ranch, sharing meals and attending church services together.  I loved Evie Thorn, the mother of Barrett and his three brothers.  She’s a no-nonsense woman, something I absolutely love!

Shelby has an entirely different set of circumstances with her family ties.  She does have loved ones, but nothing like Barrett and his family have.   I have to say that she is a tough lady, which is a good thing since someone is trying to kill her as she sets out to obtain mineral samples for her uncle in a mine.  There are some harrowing moments that will keep you turning pages as fast as you can.

As a huge fan of this authors work, I have to admit that I have truly loved every book of hers that I’ve read,  but there is just something about this one that is my favorite one so far.   It’s going to be hard to wait for the next book in this series.

I received a copy of a Cowboy Christmas Guardian from the author and was not required to give a positive review.  All opinions are my own.
