About the book:  Violet Hawthorne is beyond mortified when her brother Ezra turns their deceased parents’ New England country inn into a brothel to accommodate the nearby lumberjacks; but when Violet’s own reputation is compromised, the inn becomes the least of her worries. In an effort to salvage her good name, Violet is forced into an engagement with a taciturn acquaintance; Vance Everstone. As she prepares for a society wedding, Violet learns that her brother had staked her hand in marriage in a heated poker game with the unsavory Rowen Steele, and Ezra had lost. Now Rowen is determined to cash in on his IOU. With danger stalking her and a new fiance who hides both his emotion and his past, Violet must decide who to trust and who to leave behind.

My review:  Each book in this series has been better than the one before it and this book is no exception. Dawn Crandall has fast become one of my favorite authors and is now on my “must read” list. Her storytelling and writing are exceptional and make you feel as if you are part of the story. This entire series has been a quick read for me as I just can’t put her books down.

I found this book to have more intrigue and suspense than the previous books in the series. Vance was a rogue so he needed a different type of story. Violet was the perfect match for him and watching them go from acquaintances to more was so much fun. I wasn’t a fan of Vance in the earlier books in the series but seeing how he transformed himself into a respectable person was neat.

Dawn Crandall has a writing style that makes her books so easy to read. I just love the way the story flows easily from chapter to chapter. I often found myself reading “just to the end of the chapter” only to find that at the end of the chapter I needed to read more. I just had to find out what happened next. Her descriptions of places and people make the story seem genuine and add layers of authenticity. It is extremely easy to forget these are fictional characters.

If you are a fan of The Everstone Chronicles you are sure to love this book. This book would also be enjoyable to anyone who loves historical romance set in the New England region of the US. This book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone but is even more enjoyable when read as part of the series. Definitely a book for the keeper shelf!

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion which I have given.
