My review: The first installment of the Amish Millionaire serial by Wanda E. and Jean Brunstetter introduces us to Joel Byler and his fiancee, Kristi. We are also introduced to Joel’s family and Kristi’s mom. Joel and Kristi have a bit of (what seemed to me) a one-sided relationship and the reader gets to observe this from the very beginning.
Having never read a “serial” before I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this book. I was pleasantly surprised in the way the book plays out as if the reader is reading a full-length novel. The character development and storyline are sharp and the writing is superb. The characters are all very real and likable except Joel. I’m not a fan of Joel’s but I can see where his character was created with lots of room to grow and develop. I think it will be very interesting to see what happens to Joel in both his life and his relationship with Kristi. I liked Kristi very much and almost felt sorry for her due to the way Joel treated her. I’m hoping good things are coming her way.
Wanda and Jean make a good writing team. I like the way their writing is seamless and makes it impossible to tell that two people were writing this story. I have read other co-authored books where the writing is stilted and choppy and never did I see this in The English Son. Even though I have to wait a month to see what happens next I love the way they ended this book with a cliffhanger.
If you are looking for a great read that is quick and will leave you wanting more then this is the book for you. Great story and great writing make The English Son a must-read.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review which I have given.
